Counseling Services Kailua-Kona
DepressionOur services can reduce the physical and emotional effects of long-term depression. If symptoms like irritability, low energy, inability to focus, or insomnia last for weeks at a time or longer, talking with a professional is one of the most beneficial treatment plans. As licensed therapists, we offer coping strategies and can coordinate with your primary care doctors to align treatment plans which may include medications that can help you focus and have an easier time making everyday decisions.
AnxietyFeeling overwhelmed or full of dread is not something you should have to deal with on a daily basis. Anxiety manifests in emotional symptoms like these, or physically with muscle tension or high blood pressure, which can lead to serious health problems. If you experience these emotions, let us help you navigate through anxiety to feel more relaxed and productive. Children experience anxiety, too, causing them to shy away from extracurricular activities or cling excessively to their parents. I am a licensed family counselor who can treat any member of your household.
Stress ManagementStress can come from a wide range of sources, and while you usually know what is causing your stress, there are times that a neutral party can help you vet out the exact source of your stress so you can focus on reducing it or managing it in a healthy way. We can discuss strategies that are realistic for you in your everyday life, such as diet, exercise, and meditation practices that will lower the physical and mental stress that you feel. Stress management will allow you to continue doing things that you love without succumbing to burnout.
BurnoutUnmanaged, stress can cause you to burn out physically, mentally or emotionally – or some combination of the three. When a patient who is experiencing burnout walks in my office, it’s usually because they have hit a breaking point – whether it’s a lack of energy, lack of interest in activities that were once important, or reduced immune system due to the overpowering stress that they feel. Balance is achievable with my guidance!
Self-CareSelf-care can be preventative or reactive, depending on when it becomes a priority for you. I can help you discover what types of self-care are most beneficial for you, as well as behaviors that are not considered healthy self-care strategies, such as using alcohol or drugs. Self-care should be done regularly in order to ward off other conditions that require more extensive treatments.
Self-EsteemDid you know that you are not locked in to your current level of self-esteem? Low self-esteem that stems from childhood trauma or recent experiences can be rebuilt with positive strategies. Although low self-esteem is not a stand-alone diagnosis according to the American Psychological Association, it is associated with depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and self-harm. Let’s work together to build your self-esteem so that you can see yourself in a positive light once again – or for the very first time!
